If you didn't have the courage to stand up for someone being bullied, or that you just didn't know what to say, you could always get an adult who has authority over the bully (teacher, parent, whatever) who could stand in and help. But the problem with that is that people (students mostly) are afraid of being seen as "snitches", which is very cowardly and selfish, in my opinion, because they'd be willing to let an innocent person be victimized just so they wouldn't be looked down upon by some of the worst kind of people. So, sadly, a lot of the time when this kind of bullying is going on anyone who would do anything doesn't know about it until something horrible happens.

I don't think that the outcome of the election would be significantly changed if there were an equal number of each race voting because I think that the majority of people who care enough to register as voters and show up to vote would really take into consideration what each of the candidates stand for.

If they look the other way it can still have a huge effect on them, because they know that other people are talking about them which makes them feel worse. I think that if someone was being hurt by the put downs other people were saying to the based strictly on their race i would stand up for them and not let them get hurt worse by the people hurting them. Hannah has a really good point in the election I did feel as if some people voted for President Obama just because the color of his skin. If there was an even number of people that were of different races do you think that the election or any thing would have been different n the world?

If I saw someone being bullied by someone else solely based on their race I would help the victim and upfront the bully. A lot of people would turn the other way and tell the victim to forget about it, but where would that get us? When people hurt you, you obviously want something to be changed about it, and by doing so you don't just walk away and pretend it never happened...you have to be brave and do something about it! It may seem childish telling a teacher or adult, or it may seem lame trying to stand up to the bully, but you'll go much farther in the long-run. I think that turning the other way is a very bad idea because it will never stop.

If I saw someone being mistreated just because of their race, I would try to stand up for them. Making decisions based on race is wrong. For example, during the last presidential race it is likely that some people did not vote for Senator McCain because he is white, while others did not vote for Senator Obama because he is black. I feel that you should research the candidates back grounds and positions before you decide how to vote. So if it is wrong to withhold a vote for someone because of skin color, is it also wrong to vote in favor of someone because of skin color?

    Discussion: Thursday, March 19
I think, most people would probably not stop to say anything because they don't want to be involved with the situation. They have their own problems and they don't want to have to deal with another persons. The one percent who do are the ones who make good change in this world. Depending on how serious the incident is , I probably would stop to say something . I might wait until the incident stops and come up later to try to see if I could help but I wouldn't want to involve myself in someone elses business. I probably would ask the person or poeple involved if they were okay and if there was anything I could do to help. I wouldn't just ignore the problem but handle it by trying to help. I know if I was involved , I would want someone to stop and say something, so I'm sure the people who are involved in racial discrimination like the ones to stand out and say "hey thats wrong what your doing" or something. When things are said under their breath, sometimes people can hear them and become offended. Its always good to watch what you say and how the others around you would feel. If your not sure, its better just not to say the comment. Being of a different color than your neighbors brings diversity to a community. Its whats on the inside that matters in the end.

I would probably look the other way. I would get involved by consoling the person later, but I believe that getting involved during the incident would just make the situation tenser. I cannot think of anything I could say or do to call the attacker off anyways. Does anybody else have some ideas about what you would say or do if you acted when you saw it?

Racism seems to be the main issue in this book and people can do some really horrible things because they feel that their race is superior to another. Even if these people just do little things, someone could feel really hurt, or if it escalates the victim could be seriously injured. If you see someone being treated differently just because of their race do you think you would try to help them or look the other way, like it's no big deal?

    Good Job!
I think this page was really well done, not just the was it looks (really easy to read and the picture was cute, though it would have been better if it was more near the top. I almost missed it!) but the character descriptions seemed very thought out and weren't boring at all, I enjoyed reading them. :)

By the way in Nelia's bio, it says she is Caucasian twice, once at the beginning and once at the end.
